Hello there,
I’m so excited you can join me this week, and welcome new readers. I’m excited because I have significantly benefited from working with Rowens energy this month and feel ready to share its blessings with you.
In “Dear Joy” we learn from a new-ish witch some old lessons around intentions.
Exploring the Tree Ogham: Rowan
This week, I am delighted to continue to explore the ancient Tree Ogham (pronounced "Oh-am") with you. The Ogham is a Celtic system that uses 20 native trees from the UK, each marked with a distinct symbol, to form a sacred code. I am developing a divination method similar to Tarot or Runes, with the aim of eventually offering Ogham readings for you. Each month, I will focus on one tree, listen to its wisdom, and seek its permission to remove a small twig – about as wide as my little finger and as long as my middle finger – which, once dried, I will carve with its unique symbol. This process allows me to connect deeply with the tree’s energy and share its insights with you.

With this in mind in my journey with the Rowan tree (also known as Mountain Ash) I have realised the Rowan will be perfect for protection charms, as soon as the wood has dried I’ll make my daughter one and of course share with you. I get a sense to make her a protection charm and a wand out of the same branch, this feels like an amazing connection not only with reading the Ogham but in wider magick too.
Each Tree I connect with is like learning a new dance, and absorbing the Rowans messages has been a beautiful dance to start to learn. The Rowen is the second of the Ogham and I get such a sense of my strength increasing to aid the potential set in motion by the Birch last month. Connecting with Rowan has been like having a fortifying potion every day for me, I’ve been able to see things clearer than ever before and it's supported me to remove the dead wood (of life) and move forward in my own power. Wow Rowen I'm grateful for your energy, thank you for sharing your messages with me.
If you can’t get to comune with a Rowen tree in nature, may I recommend a trusted supplier of mine here in the UK for a Tincture “G Baldwin & Co” and I highly appreciate the vibrations of the Findhorn (community) Rowan Flower Essence. If you know you are on the right path, but are wavering in strength, Rowen is your best friend not only cheering you on, but aluminating your path forward.

Question:
Dear Joy,
I did a spell involving a lemon with nails and my full name on a piece of paper inside (among other things) and noticed it didn’t work, which was discouraging. Tonight I went to go check the spot where I buried the lemon (a planter in my apt building) and it’s gone! Assuming it wasn’t a neighbor who found it (that would be super weird and shitty since my full name was attached to it lol. First middle and last), I think a raccoon may have smelled the lemon and honey etc and stolen it.
My concerns are, 1. The lemon had nails in it :( I know raccoons eat lemons. I feel terrible. 2. Is this why the spell didn’t work???
It feels silly to wonder if the spell is affected (of course it is right??) but I’m so confused and paranoid I needed to ask community. Thanks and happy Friday <3

Dear Teaching 1668,
Firstly, thank you for reaching out, what a good idea. I can feel your anxiety and am sending you a big virtual hug and reassurance that all will be okay. I have meditated on this for you, and I’m hoping the spell was to repel or trap negative energy away from your physical self.
I want to remind you to pause and walk through your magick, this is a magical process in and of itself, that intention is key in all things, once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. Your spell castings must be adapted to suit your circumstances, I’m sure you will grow this confidence as you practice. After many years I have only to chant three times for my personal magick and it manifests, with this great power comes a great responsibility, believe you me I'm very careful what I wish for and I'm in my third age (maid, mother & crone).
Please be reassured this was an easy mistake and chalk it up to learning. I hear you worry about a lot of things, I hope you get a sense of community here that soothes you
